I grew up in
rural Alabama with very few sources of indoor entertainment. Our family
didn’t own a TV until I was 13 years old, so most of my childhood was
spent outdoors. During this time, I learned to identify the plants and
animals indigenous to the area. I’ve always been fascinated with nature
so I spent many days exploring the ridges and hollows known as
“Winnataska” (land of the laughing waters) by my Native American
ancestors, the Echota Cherokee. This area in Northern Shelby and
southern St. Clair County is where I began to understand the ways and
language of the local wildlife.
Now residing
in Chelsea, Alabama with my wife, Elicia and three children; Morgan,
Kasey, and Dalton, my free time is spent hunting, fishing, or doing some
type of outdoor activity. To stay in shape, I practice martial arts
several times a week.
I
hunt and/or fish 12 months of the year. I’m blessed to live in an area
with some of the best bass fishing lakes in the country (Lake
Guntersville, Lay Lake, Logan Martin, Lake Martin) and some of the best
turkey, whitetail, and small game hunting are all within about an hour
from home. I believe that one of the best gifts that can be given to a
child is to be introduced to the outdoors. Any person who knows the
outdoors surely knows the greatness of God. |
